~ Thirst-Quenching & Sight Giving ~
October 31, 2022Good morning my friends!
I just finished another wonderful devotional, this one from Our Daily Bread and it talks about 'Salt & Light'. This quote from the reading definitely jumped out from the page:
"Weโre to bring the salt of preservation and joy to a bland, tasteless, and otherwise decaying world. A lamp gives light that enables people to see and give direction. The lamp must necessarily be placed in a conspicuous position for the light to be effective."
โYou are the salt of the earth; but if the salt should lose its flavour, how shall it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by people.You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they put it on a lampstand so it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before all people so they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.โ

Matthew 5:13-16
How I love Jesus's Sermon on the Mount! ( Might this have something to do with living from age 1-18 years of age on Mount Saint Patrick, in Ontario?) Starting with the Beatitudes, Jesus then addresses us specifically about the role we have as His followers. He calls us the 'salt of the earth' as well as the 'light of the world'. From this precious sermon from my very best Friend and Brother I have picked up so many nuggets that He mentioned for my growth including, โlet your light shine before others".
Are you as thankful as I am that we have Holy Spirit help to shine Christโs light and keep us salty? Some days I need extra big portions of guidance and strength in having patience, showing kindness, and speaking with peaceful words.
Yet without a doubt, I know that I shall persevere and thrive because God's children are called to be the light and salt leading to salvation in a world darkened by sin.
Perhaps, you are like me and round out this cherished time by enhancing your devotional, prayers or scripture reading with a Gospel song or inspirational music. This morning, I choose a relevant song, 'Jesus Bids Us Shine'!
Why don't you join me with the words below, and as you listen to the YouTube recording ... let's sing it together! ๐ถ๐ฏโค

Jesus Bids Us Shine
Jesus bids us shine with a clear, pure light,
Like a little candle burning in the night;
In this world of darkness, we must shine,
You in your small corner, and I in mine.
Jesus bids us shine, first of all for Him;
Well He sees and knows it if our light is dim;
He looks down from heaven, sees us shine,
You in your small corner, and I in mine.
Jesus bids us shine, then, for all around
Many kinds of darkness in this world abound:
Sin, and want, and sorrowโwe must shine,
You in your small corner, and I in mine.
Jesus bids us shine, as we work for Him,
Bringing those that wander from the paths of sin;
He will ever help us, if we shine,
You in your small corner, and I in mine.
